Success Stories #1
Recently in late-November 2023, Richard Block, an alumnus of Horace Mann Elementary, toured his Morton Grove neighborhood during the weekends looking for garage sales.
He sent HMAEF the following email:
I dropped off 50 pairs of jeans, 40 sweatshirts, 18 pairs of shoes, 30 jerseys, 24 long sleeve T-shirts, 18 long sleeve shirts. (Rich Block – class of 1968 donated all of this)
What a great story helping students stay warm during the winter.
Success Stories #2
Joel Meyer graduated in 1958 and now goes to the school “five times a week”, recently became a teacher’s aide at HME. What inspired him was that he and his sister, Sherri (also a graduate of HME), attended the June 6th David Axelrod fundraiser where he listened to the stories told by Principal Purkett and teacher Tequila Johnson about HME. It took only three weeks to get approved by CPS to start his job. He drives to South Shore from Downtown five times a week to help the teachers for about three hours each day.
That is truly giving back to the school and sharing his knowledge. We at HMAEF are so proud of him.
Guaranteed Rate Field Baseball Game
Bruce Levine was at Guaranteed Rate Field today for the Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardian’s baseball game.
The main reason he was there is because HMAEF sponsored the 7th and 8th graders from HMA to a day at the ballpark.
All 75 students and teachers got free admission and a free White Sox baseball cap courtesy of the White Sox organization.
HMAEF bought $17 worth of concession credit for everyone and paid for the bus parking. Lots of happy students.
